Frobisher’s bumbleberries drowned in Devon Cider

When our apple cart fell into Ma’ Frobisher’s fruit cage there was hell to pay. Pa’ Frobisher took two weeks to repair the damage, the tipsy wagon driver got a lesson from the law and a serious quantity of apples had to be picked up for a second time. But as is the way here in Devon the story has a happy ending. The berries squashed in the accident ended up in bumbling farmer Butterfield’s best cider ever.  Apples, Strawberries, Blackcurrants, Raspberries and Blackberries – marvelous fruit cider.

Farm hands reward is 4.5% and sweet,

Made from perry pears and fully matured in old oak vats to develop its strength and traditional character. Free from all artificial colouring, flavouring and sweetening it retains its natural pale colour.

A new cider in our range, fruity, apply aroma, well balanced finish. A light and very easy to drink medium cider.

This medium still cider has a well balanced fruity flavour and is smooth and mellow with a clean apple finish, leaving the mature taste of bittersweet apples on the palate. Unlike the cloudy scrumpies this is filtered to be clear and bright.

Lulworth Skipper Cider is 100% apple juice with no additives or sweeteners, fermented and aged for 10 months in French Oak Casks. All the fruit is gathered within 20 miles of The Castle Inn.

Jack Ratt Scrumpy is a traditional Devonshire cider and is named after Jack Rattenbury – a notorious Lyme Bay smuggler.

Farmhouse Draught at its finest made from a variety of home grown apples fermented in wood.

A Dorset cider. A traditional still, medium dry, full juice cider. It is made entirely of true West Country cider apple varieties and blended over the complete harvesting season.

A medium single variety perry made with Blakeney Red pears.
Cloudy, light yellow appearance. Dry perry aroma. Great taste and a smooth finish – sweet but not too sweet with a good aftertaste.

A hazy pink & orange coloured cider.
Good medium flavour with a bit of sweetness and a drying finish.

All our Ciders are made only as full juice ciders and fermented slowly for many months.

Towards the end of fermentation we rack the cider into clean barrels to give it its wonderful depth of flavour.

Seriously strong, intense in flavour and character, being aged in spirit barrels. The ignorant might call it rough, but the knowledgeable connoisseur would consider it a robust English artisanal country beverage.

This still cider is allowed to settle out naturally after fermentation resulting in a truly old fashioned, full flavoured, appley, cloudy scrumpy, with a well balanced medium dry character.
